Crystal Successfully Completes Cross-Platform Migration for the World's Largest Carpet Maker

HERZLIA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2002--Shaw Industries, Inc. has successfully completed a 3 year effort to migrate its application systems from a large Bull GCOS8 environment to an IBM OS390 environment. Working with Crystal Systems Solutions' (Nasdaq:CRYS - news) US project management and delivery center, IntraComp Group, the project was completed 4 months ahead of schedule.

Shaw with over 100 U.S. manufacturing and distribution facilities, was one of the largest Bull customers in the US, migrating from a Bull DPS9000/758 Jupiter-II system running GCOS8, IDS-II and TP8 to an IBM 9672-R36 running OS390, DB2 and CICS.

"Crystal, using its extensive experience with large Bull/GCOS migrations, assisted Shaw with the migration of eight major application groups comprised of 3,083 COBOL programs with over 4.5 million lines of code, 900 Betters/Louis-II programs and 828 IDS-II database record types," reports Bob Ruetz, President of Crystal's IntraComp Group. "Due to the significant level of integration of Shaw's applications, the planning and implementation strategy for each group posed a major challenge to the conversion team." The Shaw/IntraComp team made extensive use of Bull's FlowBus and IBM's MQSeries Middleware to allow bridging of data to occur between platforms. At certain points during the migration over 500,000 transactions were being bridged daily.

"Crystal, using their phased approach and extensive migration experience, performed the project in a safe and controlled manner," says Jim Berry, Shaw's VP and CIO. "Many times over the past three years I have been asked whether the migration project would be successful. My answer has never wavered: We have complete confidence in the migration team of Shaw Subject Matter Experts and IntraComp Conversion Specialists to get the job done. And they did, accomplishing all planned phases with high marks, while still managing to shave four months off the original schedule. And more importantly, they have kept the business running. Since Shaw processes over 2 million online transactions daily, a seamless and error free migration was required that would not disrupt normal business processes. Through Crystal's IntraComp Group, we have achieved our goals ahead of schedule and within budget."

"Migrating to the IBM mainframe was strategic to the company, not only in protecting the company from risk, but also in giving us a giant technological step forward in meeting our future goals. Now that this move is behind us, we can dedicate all our energies to designing and building industry-leading strategic systems that will enhance our market competitiveness and lower company costs" noted Jonathan Goodwin, Director of IS Business Group. "It is hard to imagine after over 20 years of faithful service to our company: There are now no active users on the Bull mainframe. The performance monitor shows an idle machine," says Tim Burke, Mainframe Migration Project Manager.
